Templates and template instances
A template selects one or more rules from the rule library and sets their default variable values. Template instances inherit the same rules but can customize variable values or disable individual rules. Each template automatically creates a default instance.
Rule library

Rules are the building blocks of templates. When creating or editing a template, select which rules it should include from this library.

Each template composes a set of rules and defines their default variable values. Use New template to create one, or select an existing template to edit its rules and defaults.
Instances
7 template instances
Instances inherit rules from their parent template. They can override variable values and disable inherited rules, but cannot add new rules. The default instance is created automatically.

Each rule listed below comes from the rule library. Use the Active checkbox to include or exclude a rule from this template. For active rules, set the default variable values that all instances will inherit. Use Order to control rule execution sequence. Click Save template to persist changes.

Handles em-dashes according to the selected template preference.
common.emdash / emdash.mode
Controls how em-dashes are handled in polished output.
